This policy explains what personal information ivywoodsbooks.com collects, why it's collected, and what you can do about it.

Information I Collect

Information you give me directly

• Newsletter signup: your email address, and your first name if you choose to share it.

• Contact form or email: your name, email address, and whatever you write in your message. Messages sent to hello@ivywoodsbooks.com arrive in a Google Workspace (Gmail) inbox and are stored on Google's servers.

• Giveaways and reader surveys: whatever the entry form asks for, which may include a mailing address if a physical prize is involved.

Information collected automatically

This site is built and hosted on Squarespace. When you visit, Squarespace records standard technical information including your IP address, browser and device type, the page that referred you, which pages you viewed, and how long you stayed. I see this as aggregate traffic reports and it tells me which books and posts readers are interested in, not who you are.

Information I don't collect

I don't knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as health, financial, religious, or political details. I don't buy or rent mailing lists, and I don't run ads on this site.

How I Use Your Information

• To send my newsletter and reader updates, if you've signed up for them

• To reply when you get in touch

• To run giveaways and send prizes

• To understand which parts of the site readers find useful

• To keep the site secure and comply with legal obligations

I will never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

Email and Newsletters

My mailing list is managed through Flodesk, which stores subscriber information on my behalf. When you subscribe, Flodesk records your email address, the date you signed up, and whether you open my emails or click links in them. This helps me judge what readers actually want to hear about.

Every email includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and removes you from all future mailings. I keep a record of unsubscribes so you don't get accidentally added back later.

Personal correspondence is separate from the mailing list. When you write to hello@ivywoodsbooks.com, or respond to a newsletter, your message is delivered to and stored in a Google Workspace account (Gmail) provided by Google. Writing to me doesn't add you to my newsletter; that only happens if you sign up for it yourself.

Cookies

Cookies are small files your browser stores when you visit a website. This site uses:

• Essential cookies set by Squarespace, which are needed for pages to load and function properly.

• Analytics cookies set by Squarespace, which count visits and page views.

• Affiliate cookies set by Amazon and other retailers when you click a book link, which let them credit the referral.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Essential cookies can't be turned off without affecting how the site works. Squarespace's cookie policy is at squarespace.com/cookie-policy.

Affiliate Links

I'm a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and may use similar affiliate programs with other booksellers. Some book links on this site are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy through them. This never costs you anything extra.

When you click one of these links, the retailer places a cookie to track the referral and takes over from there. Anything you do on Amazon or another retailer's site is covered by that company's privacy policy, not mine.

Who I Share Information With

I share information only with the services that keep this site running, and only as much as they need:

• Website hosting and analytics: Squarespace

• Newsletter and mailing lists: Flodesk

• Personal email correspondence: Google Workspace (Gmail)

• Affiliate link tracking: Amazon Associates and similar programs

I may also disclose information if legally required to do so, or if this site is ever sold or transferred to someone else.

How Long I Keep Information

• Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, plus an ongoing suppression record so you aren't re-added

• Contact messages: up to two years, then deleted

• Giveaway entries: until the giveaway closes and prizes are sent, unless you've also joined the newsletter

• Analytics: according to Squarespace's standard retention periods

Your Rights

You can ask me to show you what personal information I hold about you, correct anything that's wrong, or delete it entirely. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time without giving a reason.

Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other states with privacy laws have additional rights, including the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. I don't sell or share personal information for advertising purposes, so there's nothing to opt out of — but the right to access and delete still applies, and you won't be treated differently for exercising it.

If you're reading from outside the United States, including the UK or European Union, I'll honor the same access, correction, and deletion requests. Note that my service providers store data on servers in (and somtimes outside of) the United States.

Children's Privacy

My books are written for readers aged 13 and up. This site is not directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Newsletter signup and giveaway entry are intended for readers 13 and older.

If you're a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has submitted information through this site, email me and I'll delete it promptly.

Security

This site runs over HTTPS, and I use established providers who maintain their own security practices. That said, no method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure, so please don't send sensitive personal details through the contact form.

Changes To This Policy

I'll update this page whenever my practices change and revise the date at the top. If a change materially affects newsletter subscribers, I'll mention it in an email.
